Little Injured Bird Receives Tiny ‘Snowshoes’ And Gets Back On Her Feet

Little Injured Bird Receives Tiny ‘Snowshoes’ And Gets Back On Her Feet

What do you do when you find a tiny Northern Mockingbird with impaired feet? You take some cardboard and tape, add a bit of creativity and come up with an awesome solution to fix it!
Some good-hearted fellows at the California Wildlife Center (CWC) came to the rescue of a mockingbird with a foot condition that made it difficult for the poor thing to walk around, perch or grasp objects. The birdie had an unknown injury that caused her feet to knuckle, something that is a common condition in young birds.
The rescuers made something that looks like tiny snowshoes. The design made sure the feet of the bird were back to the proper position and feet could heal. Before that the bird had to stand on the tops of her toes all the time, which was only causing additional injury. ‘It usually takes a week or two of wearing the snowshoes before their feet are back to normal.” – Duane Tom from CWC told The Dodo.
The sources confirm that the snowshoe operation has been a success. The birdie is getting ready to go back to the wild and delight us with her lullabies. Hooray!

Donald Trump has a 19-point lead over Hillary Clinton among military and veteran voters, according to polling released Wednesday.
Mr. Trump had a 19-point, 55 percent to 36 percent lead over Mrs. Clinton in the NBC News/SurveyMonkey online poll.
Fifty-three percent of military and veteran voters said they feel comfortable in Mr. Trump’s ability to be an effective commander-in-chief of the country’s military, compared to 35 percent for Mrs. Clinton.
Mr. Trump also had a 53 percent to 28 percent edge among military and veteran voters when it came to veterans issues.
Mrs. Clinton had a slight edge among military and veteran voters on who they trust more to make the right decisions on nuclear weapons. A new ad released this week by a pro-Clinton group strongly implied that Mr. Trump could trigger a nuclear war if elected president.
In 2012, GOP nominee Mitt Romney won the veterans vote by 20 points, according to an American National Election Studies post-election survey.

Dog Swims Over 6 Miles to Reunite With Family After Falling Off Boat in Lake Michigan

Dog Swims Over 6 Miles to Reunite With Family After Falling Off Boat in Lake Michigan

  • Rylee, a 10-month-old Belgian Malinois, was reunited with her owners on Aug. 29, 2016, after she apparently swam over six miles to shore after falling off a boat in the middle of Lake Michigan on Aug. 28, 2016.

A dog that recently fell overboard in the middle of Lake Michigan apparently swam over six miles back to shore and walked over 12 miles more to a campground where she was reunited with her family the following day.
Edward Casas, 56, told ABC News today that he had been boating with his wife, 49-year-old Kristin Casas, on Sunday, when they they encountered a mechanical problem.
Edward said he believes their son's 10-month-old puppy, Rylee, must have fallen overboard while he was down in the engine room figuring out the issue and his wife was on top of the boat steering.
"Our hearts just sank," he said. "We were gone for maybe 10 minutes, and then we couldn't find her anywhere on the boat and she was nowhere to be seen in the water."
Edward said he immediately made a "'mayday dog overboard' call over the radio."

One of several fishermen who responded to the call connected Edward to his wife, Lynn Fiedor, who runs a volunteer group in the area called the Lost Dog Search Team.
Fiedor told ABC News today that when she learned Rylee was training to be a search-and-rescue dog and that she was a Belgian Malinois -- a working breed known for its intelligence and athleticism -- she "had no doubt in her mind" the pup would "find her way back to shore."
"From there, it was just a matter of getting the word out as much as I could so that everyone in the area would be looking for this dog when she got to shore," Fiedor said. She explained that she called the local sheriff's office, park rangers, Coast Guard and even posted an alert to her group's Facebook page.
Though no one had reported seeing Rylee Sunday evening, Fiedor said hope came in the form of a call the following morning.

"A lady said she had seen the dog going into the Platte River Campground," Fiedor said. "It was amazing. She literally swam over six miles and walked over 12 miles more through the woods."
Fiedor immediately alerted Edward and Kristin about the sighting, and the couple was able to drive to the campground area thanks to a local harbormaster who let them borrow his truck.
Fiedor then explained to the couple the best ways to attract lost dogs and had the couple mark their scent around the truck before lying down with Rylee's food and toys.
Just a little while after Edward started squeaking one of Rylee's favorite toys while laying on the ground, the pup emerged from woods and joyfully greeted at them, Fiedor said.

Edward told ABC News there "was a lot of sobbing and a lot of hugging."
"Let me tell you, I'm not the kind of guy that cries but oh did this make me cry," he said. "I am so proud of this dog and so proud of and grateful for Lynn [Fiedor]."
Kristin told ABC News today, "Lynn is truly an angel walking on Earth with us -- heart of gold, tenacity, relentless, loving and determined. ... Just like Rylee!"
The couple added that their 18-year-old son away at college, Colin Casas, technically owns Rylee and that he was also relieved after hearing the good news.

How Ashley Graham Stole the Show at the VMAs

    JANELLE OKWODU

Though it’s tempting to imagine celebrity style comes together off the cuff, most appearances require hours of discussion and planning. When Ashley Grahamarrived at the VMAs, it was instant red carpet perfection; the striking gown, the wet-look hair, and the bling all combined to create a look that was effortlessly sexy. For Graham and her stylist Jeff K. Kim, it all began with a simple idea—how to showcase the best of Graham’s personal style while staying true to the night’s daring spirit. “With Ashley, I wanted to obviously make sure that she stood out within the crowd of these outlandish looks, but kept true to who she is,” says Kim. “A touch of sexy, femininity, and of course, a lot of luxury.” For her part, Graham wanted to provide viewers with the kind of inspiration she never saw growing up. “I don’t think there was one iconic look that fully inspired me, because for so long, I rarely saw women my size on red carpets having high-fashion moments,” says Graham. “I wanted to remind curvy women that there shouldn’t be any fashion rules placed upon us.”
The choice of a beaded Naeem Khan dress reflected all the right qualities. Transparent silver and covered with intricate beads, the one-of-a-kind piece was a knockout—and the sole look Kim selected for the evening. “Ashley trusted me to come up with something amazing for this red carpet—and of course, I made sure I delivered!” Putting an emphasis on Graham’s physique without delving into risqué territory, the gown’s hand beading added an extra touch of extravagance. “The artisanal craftsmanship behind the beading of the dress [added to the beauty], also the dress being sheer really added a sensual, dramatic factor.” According to Graham, all the luxe touches put her in the right mood. “I felt empowered, confident, and totally sexy,” says Graham. “I knew I wanted to show off my body and my curves, so the Naeem Khan dress was perfect.” With her makeup artist, Vincent Oquendo, providing smoky eyes and thick lashes and Renato Campora on hand to change Graham’s bob into tousled waves, the transformation was almost complete. “My haircut elevated the look and made it even chicer, and the makeup was the perfect finishing touch.”
Naturally, Graham’s ensemble didn’t go unnoticed; she even got a shout-out from a fellow bombshell. “Kim Kardashian called me the most beautiful lady in the world!” shared Graham, who posted an Instagram with the star in their accidentally coordinated looks. The positive reaction came as no surprise to her stylist, who said “Ashley is so stunning on her own—so the truth is, is that she could wear anything and give the look the wow factor.”

We’re getting ready for the #VMAs with supermodel Ashley Graham as she puts on the finishing touches of her red carpet look.

    Crystal Palace Sign Remy

Crystal Palace are pleased to announce the signing of Loic Remy from Chelsea on a season-long loan.
The striker played under Alan Pardew at Newcastle United during the 2013/14 season where he hit 14 goals in 27 appearances and becomes the Eagles’ fifth signing of the summer.
Capped 31 times by France, Remy has represented Lyon, Lens, Nice and Marseille in his homeland, winning two French Cups with the latter, before arriving in England with Queens Park Rangers in January 2013.
After a successful stint on loan at the Magpies he was signed by Chelsea from QPR in September 2014. He has scored 12 times for the Blues in 47 appearances and lifted the Premier League and League Cup during his first season at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking about his move, the 29-year-old said: "This is a very good chance for me and a big opportunity. It was very important to know Alan Pardew as he is a very good manager and I am happy to be here."
After being reunited with the striker, Pardew added: “Loic has been a target of mine throughout this transfer window and I’m delighted the deal has been done. I brought him to Newcastle so I know what he is capable of and I am convinced he will be a quality addition to our squad as we evolve.

"Loic has international and Champions League experience as well as being a Premier League title winner and is the latest example of the high calibre of players we have brought into the club during this transfer window."

    Kusha Kapila
After weeks of speculation, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan decided to hit a high note. Last night, at the Grand Finale of Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai, as designer Sabyashachi Mukherjee conjured up an exquisite vision for the onlookers, Kareena stepped in as the showstopper of the night. And everyone let out a collective cheer as she embraced her baby bump in an olive green outfit. The Symphony Orhestra of India dished out heart-melting music, meanwhile.

Channelling her inner begum, Kareena was doing extremely well on the signature-Sabyasachi coy aesthetic. That was until the attendees of the show cheered her on, compelling Bebo to blow a flying kiss. We think this is exactly how the actress intends to enjoy the remaining months of her pregnancy – unabashed and fierce.
While this isn’t the first time a pregnant woman has walked the ramp for a designer (Supermodel Carol Garcious revealed her baby bump on the ramp back in 2015 for, while walking for Gaurang Shah), this is definitely the first time a Bollywood leading lady decided to take the plunge. Kudos to women like Kareena for carrying the baton of body-positivity.
