American Muslim Activists Are Raising Money to Pay for Repairs to Desecrated Jewish Cemetery

American Muslim Activists Are Raising Money to Pay for Repairs to Desecrated Jewish Cemetery
Megan Reynolds

Over the long weekend, headstones at the Chesed Shel Emeth Society cemetery outside of St. Louis were vandalized—just another part of the quiet wave of anti-Semitism sweeping the nation, emboldened by the Trump administration. Now, two American Muslim activists have started a fundraising campaign to pay for the damage.  The Washington Post reports that the campaign, launched by Linda Sarsour of MPower Change and Tarek El-Messidi of CelebrateMercy, went up Tuesday afternoon and exceeded its fundraising goal of $20,000 within a couple of hours.  According to the fundraising page, the purpose of the campaign is simple: to show solidarity in the face of rampant, widespread hate, and to “send a united message from the Jewish and Muslim communities that there is no place for this type of hate, desecration and violence in America.”    Hate crimes have been on the rise since the election, spurred by the anti-Semitic and Islamophobic rhetoric that emanates from the current administrations policies and actions. Speaking to the Post, El-Messidi said “This is really a human issue. But out of this horrible election cycle, something beautiful has come out of it and [Muslims and Jews have] bonded together to support each other and stand up to this hate. Politics can get in the way of our basic humanity; I hope this breaks through all those walls, no pun intended, to help bring us closer together.”  The exact cost of the damage has not been calculated, but the entirety of the $20,000 raised will go towards its repair. According to the fundraising page, any leftover funds will be used “to assist other vandalized Jewish centers nationwide.”

Ivanka Trump Calls for Tolerance After Threats on Jewish Centers

Ivanka Trump, President Trump’s oldest daughter and a convert to Judaism, issued a statement over Twitter on Monday calling for “religious tolerance” after a new wave of threats against Jewish community centers.
The tweet was Ms. Trump’s most vocal foray into a public discussion and was made over an issue her allies say she feels personally.

The message was posted after Ms. Trump wrote, and then deleted, an earlier one moments beforehand.
Ms. Trump converted to Judaism before marrying her husband, Jared Kushner, an Orthodox Jew, putting her in a position to be a prominent voice at a moment when a number of anti-Semitic episodes have taken place around the country. Her previous substantive effort in the White House involved convening a women’s business council, an event she helped create, when the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, visited the president.
On Monday, 11 separate bomb scares were called into Jewish community centers around the country. They were the latest in a string of such threats since the start of the year.
“Since the beginning of this year, we’ve seen four waves of these threats — we’ve never seen that before,” said David Posner, the director of strategic performance at the JCC Association of North America. Just one community center reported such a threat in all of 2016, he said.
The centers threatened on Monday were in Albuquerque; Birmingham, Ala.; Buffalo; Chicago; Cleveland; Houston; Milwaukee; Nashville; St. Paul; Tampa, Fla.; and Tulsa, Okla. Like the earlier threats, they were deemed hoaxes, but not before several of the centers were evacuated as a precaution.
Mr. Trump has been criticized as slow to condemn anti-Semitic comments, and his candidacy was hailed by white nationalists and white supremacists throughout 2016.
On Thursday, at his first lengthy news conference alone as president, Mr. Trump was asked by a reporter for a Jewish magazine how the government plans to respond to the increase in such anti-Semitic incidents. The president responded angrily, saying the question was “insulting” and that he was the “least anti-Semitic person in the world.”
In addition to Ms. Trump’s statement, the Trump administration addressed the issue more directly on Monday.
“Hatred and hate-motivated violence of any kind have no place in a country founded on the promise of individual freedom,” Lindsay Walters, the White House deputy press secretary, said in a statement. “The president has made it abundantly clear that these actions are unacceptable.”
Also on Monday, the police in University City, Mo., near St. Louis, were investigating vandalism at a Jewish cemetery where dozens of headstones were damaged, according to reports.

Many cemeteries have sustained vandalism, and the police have not said whether they believed the episode in University City was motivated by anti-Semitism. Even so, Gov. Eric Greitens said on Twitter that he was “disgusted to hear about the senseless act of desecration,” issuing the kind of condemnation that Jonathan A. Greenblatt, the chief executive of the Anti-Defamation League, had urged of all politicians.

“We look to our political leaders at all levels to speak out against such threats directed against Jewish institutions, to make it clear that such actions are unacceptable,” he said in a statement about the bomb threats.

At least 160,000 protesters have marched in Barcelona to demand that Spain's conservative-led government increase its efforts to take in refugees from war-torn countries like Syria.
Spain has accepted just 1,100 refugees of the over 17,000 it has pledged to take in.
Marchers held a large banner and signs in Catalan with the slogans 'Enough Excuses! Take Them In Now!' and 'No More Deaths, Open The Borders!' as they made their way through the city centre to its Mediterranean coast.
Barcelona police said 160,000 people took part in the march, while organisers said it reached 300,000 participants.
“There is an ample consensus in Catalonia to demand that the (government's) commitments are upheld,” said organiser Ruben Wagensberg.
In September 2015, Spain's government pledged to bring 17,337 refugees in within two years: 15,888 from camps in Italy and Greece and 1,449 from Turkey and Libya.

On Thursday, a group of 66 refugees – 65 Syrians and one Iraqi – who arrived in Madrid raised the total number of refugees that Spain has taken in to just 1,100.
Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau, a former anti-eviction activist who has pushed Spain's government to let her city accept more refugees, joined the march.
“It is very important that in a Europe of uncertainty where xenophobia is on the rise for Barcelona to be a capital of hope,” Ms Colau said.
She also criticized the federal government's stance toward refugees in December at a Vatican conference on Europe's refugee crisis.
In contrast to Spain, fellow European Union member Germany took in 890,000 asylum-seekers in 2015 and another 280,000 in 2016.
Germany decided last year on more than 695,000 asylum applications. Nearly 60% of the applicants were granted either full refugee status or a lesser form of protection

Who Needs A Big Block? Supercharged Smart Car Does Wheelies, Whips Mustang

Who Needs A Big Block? Supercharged Smart Car Does Wheelies, Whips Mustang
Nelson Ireson

Take one part Smart ForTwo, add equal parts Toyota Paseo Sprintex 1.5-liter engine and supercharger, mix well, and take to the drag strip. This is a recipe for beating Shelby Mustangs.
At least, it’s one recipe for taking the drag-radial-shod pony car to task. And to be fair, the Smart driver didn’t quite win, lifting just before the lights to let the Mustang cruise past. It was still a close race, with the Smart turning a 13.90 to the Mustang’s 13.67 ET.
The Smart car’s advantage is all in the hole shot. Despite a rather large wheelie at launch, it rabbits down the strip, outdistancing the Mustang by several car lengths until just past mid-track, where the tables turn.
Win or lose, this is one of the coolest Smart cars we’ve seen. Who needs a big block?

Tragedy as Wallabies lock Vickerman dies

Tragedy as Wallabies lock Vickerman dies

The Australian rugby community has been rocked by the sudden passing 63-Test lock Dan Vickerman, at just 37.
South-African born Vickerman, who last played for the Wallabies at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, was found in his family home overnight, with friends and the rugby community reeling from the shocking news on Sunday.
His final season was a remarkable comeback in itself, with Vickerman returning to the Test fold after a three-year break from rugby, where he studied at Cambridge University and played for their varsity side.
The 2011 comeback handed him his third World Cup opportunity, a decade after his 2001 Super Rugby debut for the Brumbies, where he spent three seasons before moving to the Waratahs.

Former Wallabies backrower Phil Waugh, who played with Vickerman at club, state and Test level, said his teammates were still coming to terms with Sunday's tragic news.
"We’re all devastated about our good friend and teammate, Vicks," he said.
“I think I speak on behalf of all players in saying that our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Sarah and the boys. - Phil Waugh
"Out of respect to them, we’d prefer not to say too much more except that we are thinking of them and his family at this difficult time and he will always be in our hearts.”
Vickerman was still an active part of the rugby community, part of RUPA's National Player Development Program, helping others transition into post-retirement life, as well as being on the committee of the Sydney University Rugby Players and Stalwarts Society.
"On behalf of all players, we extend our deepest sympathies to Dan’s young family at this difficult time. We are truly shocked and united in our despair," RUPA CEO Ross Xenos said.
"Dan was universally respected by his peers and the rugby community during and beyond his playing days. Since retiring, he was very generous in giving back to the game through coaching and voluntary roles supporting players’ off-field development.
"We encourage all players, present and past, to support and be there for each other and to contact RUPA if anyone needs to talk."
He was a regular presence in the rugby media, appearing on FOX Sports in recent months, after his retirement.
ARU CEO Bill Pulver extended the sympathies of the national rugby community to Vickerman's family.
"The rugby world is in shock today after news of the tragic passing of Dan Vickerman," he said.
"Dan was an uncompromising competitor who forged a wonderful international rugby career despite a number of injury setbacks along the way. He was an enforcer on the field and a much-loved character off the field. - Bill Pulver
"He cared deeply about the game and the players, helping players transition into life after rugby in his role with RUPA following his retirement.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Dan's family at this extremely difficult time."
At the time of his retirement, then-Wallabies coach Robbie Deans spoke of the respect Vickerman commanded during his rugby career.
“As a player, Dan is an uncompromising competitor who sets high standards for himself, and demands the same of those around him,” he said
“He commands enormous respect, from teammates and opponents alike, which says a lot about the man." - Robbie Deans

CNN’s Don Lemon Walks Off Show After Guest Accuses Him Of Reporting Fake News (VIDEO)

CNN’s Don Lemon Walks Off Show After Guest Accuses Him Of Reporting Fake News (VIDEO)

CNN has come under heavy fire from many people for reporting fake news including President Trump who called CNN ‘very fake news’ at his last presser. CNN can dish it out, but they can’t take it! After bullying Trump and colluding with Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election cycle they are finally getting a dose of their own medicine.
Of course CNN was blathering on about the cost to keep President Trump safe and how to make it fiscally better for the American people…all of a sudden liberals want to watch pennies and be fiscally responsible. I guess we’ll just have to suspend reality for a moment to forget about the trillions of debt Obama racked up.
Don Lemon: “Paris, what do you think?”
Paris Dennard: “I think this is fake news. This is not…this is not a news story.”
Don Lemon: “What about it is fake, Paris? Are we going down this road again?”
Paris Dennard: “Yeah we are! The President is not breaking any laws.”
Don Lemon: “…Please stop with that stupid talking point that this is a fake news story!…”
Paris Dennard: ” Don this is a fake news story in my opinion….”
This is where Don Lemon couldn’t take it anymore, cut off his guest and walked off his show!
Don Lemon: “Ok, thank you very much everyone. Thanks for watching. Have a great weekend. Good night all.”
What’s really funny is watching Don Lemon try to lecture someone on what the definition of fake news is. Congrats to CNN for being promoted from ‘fake news’ to ‘VERY fake news’!

Trump asks black journalist to help set up meeting with Congressional Black Caucus

Trump asks black journalist to help set up meeting with Congressional Black Caucus
By CRISTIANO LIMA

President Donald Trump, during a heated press conference where he repeatedly sparred with the press, asked veteran African-American journalist April Ryan if she could help set up a meeting between him and the Congressional Black Caucus, asking her, "Are they friends of yours?"  Ryan, the Washington bureau chief for the American Urban Radio Networks, asked Trump a question about his plan to fix the inner cities, something the president frequently alluded to on the campaign trail and since his electoral victory.
"When you say the inner cities, are you going to include the CBC, Mr. President, in your conversations with your urban agenda, inner city agenda?" Ryan asked at the contentious White House press conference.  "Well I would, tell you what, do you want to set up the meeting? Are they friends of yours?" Trump asked.  "I'm just a reporter. I know some of them," Ryan replied.  "Let's go, let's set up a meeting. I would love to meet with the Black Caucus," Trump continued.  The president repeatedly attacked and lashed out at various reporters during the Thursday presser, referring to numerous outlets as "fake news."
Prior to the exchange, Trump decried the conditions in inner cities, saying that many African-Americans are “living in hell” and pledged to be “very strong” on the subject.  “There's one Chicago that's incredible, luxurious and all, and safe,” he said. “There's another Chicago that's worse than almost any of the places in the Middle East.”  The highly-charged Thursday exchange was the second controversial encounter between the Trump administration and Ryan in recent days, with the veteran White House journalist reportedly accusing communications official and former reality star Omarosa Manigault of physically intimidating her last week.  Ryan told the Washington Post Monday that Manigault also verbally threatened her during a White House encounter last week, with Manigault allegedly alluding to a “dossier” of negative information the Trump administration had on her and other journalists.

Trump approval rating takes STUNNING turn after weeks of media hammering

Trump approval rating takes STUNNING turn after weeks of media hammering
By Derrick Wilburn

This morning’s (February 16) Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll proves it – Donald Trump is President Rocky.  Whether Apollo Creed, Thunderlips, Clubber Lang or Ivan Drago, in film after film Sylvester Stallone’s character, “The Italian Stallion” took an absolute pounding at the hands of his opponent only to emerge victorious in the end. Just when you thought, “That’s it. That’s the final blow, he’ll never recover from that,” Rocky found a way.
Donald Trump has had more “he’ll never survive that” moments in the past twenty months than most people can remember. From crude comments recorded years ago on a bus to attacks over the size of his hands, Trump has been taking body blow after body blow since announcing his candidacy. Yet he staggers to his corner, cut man patches him up and he answers the bell for the next round. The man is nothing if not resilient.
This morning Trump’s overall approval rating has popped up to 55 percent! With 38 percent “Strongly approving” of his job performance.
Though his presidency is not yet four weeks old, Trump has achieved this number amidst a constant media avalanche of negative coverage. Data included in the same poll shows that “Nearly half (48 percent) also believe most reporters are biased against the president  Only 12 percent think they are biased for Trump…
What media those twelve percent are watching, reading or listening to is a mystery right up there with Stonehenge. Of the three opponents with whom Trump seems to do daily battle –Democrats, Republicans, media– (some would argue that numbers one and three are one-in-the-same) none has been more dogged, more ruthless and more unrelenting that the U.S. media.
The so-called mainstream media have consistently portrayed Trump’s immigration and visa overstay executive order as a “Muslim ban” or “Muslim travel ban.” Most also consistently neglect to mention it is a 90-day moratorium, not permanent restriction and that it only affects seven nations; 85 percent of the majority Muslim nations of the world are unaffected.

Trump Just Gave The WORST Defense Of Flynn’s Treason

Trump Just Gave The WORST Defense Of Flynn’s Treason
BY NATALIE DICKINSON
President Donald Trump just held a press conference, and it was an absolute horror show. He ranted and raved about the terrible unfair and enormously dishonest media for over ten minutes. He smeared the leakers that exposed his former National Security Adviser Gen. Michael Flynn’s potentially treasonous communications with the Russian government as illegal criminals and then made this truly insane statement in defense of Flynn:
“The reporting is fake. Here’s the thing, the public isn’t — you know, they read newspapers, they see television, they watch. They don’t know if it’s true or false because they’re not involved. I’m involved.
The leaks are absolutely real. The news is fake because so much of the news is fake.
So I know when you are telling the truth or when you’re not. I just see many, many untruthful things. And I’ll tell you what else I see. I see tone. You know the word tone. The tone is such hatred. I’m really not a bad person, by the way.”

Trump cannot have it both ways. The news was about the leaks, so, therefore, if the leaks are real, then the news is real. It’s the kind of absurd mental gymnastics and information distortion common in authoritarian dictatorships.
It’s obvious from Trump’s unhinged reactions that he knows the accusations against him and his administration are true, so he is desperately trying to destroy the credibility of the media in the eyes of the public and remove himself from public scrutiny.
This press conference was a slap in the face of our First Amendment, our right to a free press, and to the Constitution that Trump swore to uphold. He is incapable of speaking coherently but instead simply unleashes a tidal wave of egotistical ramblings peppered with outrageous lies. He is truly a disgrace to this nation and a threat to American society as we know it.

No One’s Safe When “Mr. Steal Your Girl” Is Around

It’s no secret that Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada, is a charming man. He’s been stealing people’s hearts from all over the world ever since he was elected, and now it looks like a few famous figures are also unable to contain their fascination with the man.
A few days ago, pictures of Ivanka Trump staring longingly at Justin Trudeau sparked a new meme suggesting that everyone had a crush on the Prime Minister.
Pictures from various times show queens, celebrities and other presidents looking captivated with Trudeau. But can you blame them? Trudeau is truly a fascinating man.
