Trump just admitted taxpayers will pay for the border wall (Details)
President Trump just broke his first and most famously outlandish campaign promise to force Mexico to pay for his controversial border wall. Today he conceded that the American public would have to bear the financial cost of its construction.
“I’m just telling you there will be a payment,” Trump said today in an interview with ABC News. “It will be in a form, perhaps a complicated form.”
Trump estimated that construction would begin in “months,” saying the Trump administration was endeavoring to get it started “As soon as we can. As soon as we can physically do it.”
Various independent estimates have approximated that the wall would cost American taxpayers between $15 and $25 billion.
Trump has since shifted gears from promising that the Mexican government would pay for the wall to promising that the federal government will “absolutely” be “reimbursed at a later date.”
