INDORE: A lioness gave birth to four healthy cubs in Indore Zoo in the early hours of Friday, sparking jubilation.
"The cubs were born to Megha at 1.30am. They are yet to open their eyes. Megha is nursing them," said Uttam Yadav, who is in charge of Kamla Nehru Zoo, to TOI. This is her third litter.
In the first two months, cubs are always vulnerable to infections so no employee will be allowed to go near them for the first few days, he said. After that only the staff who regularly take care of the lioness will be allowed to monitor the cubs.
"Visitors can see the cubs once the little ones are vaccinated and fit to be exhibited," said Yadav. Zoo authorities said that they are yet to determine the gender of the cubs as they are with their mother.
With the arrival of the cubs, the zoo now has 10 lions, including two females.
