Blade Runner Sequel Casts Jared Leto
- Megan Peters
Following a surprise announcement, it looks like yet another award-winning actor has signed onto the Blade Runner sequel. Jared Leto has been cast in the upcoming film.
While there's been little information released on his role, Leto is joining the star-studded cast as talent like Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Harrison Ford have already signed onto the project. Other actors such as Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, and Carla Juri are also attached to the film.
In fact, there are few details circulating about Blade Runner's sequel period. The project has been in development for years now, dating as far back as 2007 even. However, no official confirmation on Ridley Scott's project came until 2011. So far, fans know the new film will follow decades after the original 1982 Blade Runner with Harrison Ford set to reprise his starring role. The film started shooting just last month, and Warner Bros. plans to release the Blade Runner sequel on October 6th 2017. Fans were also disappointed to learn that Ridley would not be returning to the franchise as a director since the filmmaker will act a producer on the flick. Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve is has inherited Ridley's role with Hampton Fancher penning the film's script.
Fans, of course, are likely familiar with who Jared Leto is. The acclaimed actor has starred in numerous projects, and most recently, the actor spurred headlines by playing the Joker in Suicide Squad. Prior to being cast as the Clown Prince of Crime, Leto earned an Academy Award for portraying a transgender woman in Dallas Buyers Club. He's also well-known for his work on Requiem for a Dream, one of his first break-out roles. Music fans will also know Leto for fronting the band 30 Seconds to Mars which has sold more than million albums worldwide.
