Woman gives birth mid-air; Newborn gets lifetime of free flights

A woman aboard a Cebu Airlines flight gave birth to a baby mid-air while the plan was travelling from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Philippines. The case got widespread attention because while such cases have happened in the past, they are extremely rare as the airlines make sure that expecting mothers don’t travel near their delivery dates.
Despite this, the mother, whose identity and nationality are not known, gave birth to a baby girl even though she was due in October. The baby was born prematurely but thankfully both baby and the mother are doing fine.
The incident took place on Sunday and since then the news has been making rounds on the internet. A fellow passenger by the name of Missy Bernerabe Umandal posted about the experience on Facebook, and since then, her post has gone viral.
According to the details provided, the mother of the newborn baby started having contractions mid-flight. Panicked flight attendants started calling out for assistance as they could tell that the baby is on its way. Luckily, there were two nurses on-board and they helped the mother deliver the baby.
“We only heard one semi-loud screech, and a few seconds later, there were tinier, cute screeches, and it was when we knew the baby was born. Luckily, she only had to push ONCE,” Umandal said in her post, with a picture showing the mother holding her newborn, wrapped in a blanket.
The flight made an emergency landing in India, where the mother and baby were transferred to a hospital in Hyderabad. The mother, baby and grandmother have been given a three-day visa to India, which can be extended till the time the family is fit to travel again.
Cebu Airlines has also given a lifetime free pass to the baby to travel anywhere in the world.
