Michael Phelps ushered in the 2016 Olympics for the USA when he carried the flag in the opening ceremony, now Simone Biles will lead America out of the games, according to USA TODAY’s Nancy Armour.
Anyone who’s watched the Rio Olympics knows that Biles is the correct person to carry the flag. Arguments could be made for swimmer Katie Ledecky, but she left Rio following the conclusion of swimming last week.
Biles dominated artistic gymnastics in Rio, bringing home four gold medals and one bronze. She was hoping to achieve a record five gold medals in gymnastics, but her only blemish of these games was falling short in the balance beam finals.
Biles, with Aly Raisman, helped lead the women’s all-around team to gold, won the women’s all-around individual finals and dominated the apparatus finals on floor and vault.
